Emovis Joins Express Lanes Ecosystem Leaders in Northern Virginia

Emovis participated in the Express Lanes Workshop 2026, held on September 1–2, 2026, in Northern Virginia and organized by Toll Insight in coordination with Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) leadership.

 

The exclusive, curated workshop brought together more than 100 senior operators, agency executives, technical experts, and industry specialists from across the Express Lanes ecosystem to examine lessons, operational challenges, and emerging solutions shaping the future of tolling and mobility.

 

 

The Workshop provided a collaborative environment for candid discussion, peer exchange, and practical knowledge transfer. Day 1, “Strategy, Policy & Technology Perspectives”, explored national market trends, P3 delivery models, dynamic pricing, policy considerations, contract management, customer experience, compliance, tolling systems, enforcement technologies, data analytics, and positioning/GPS-related challenges. The day concluded with a networking reception, providing further opportunities for exchange among operators, agencies, and industry leaders.

 

Day 2, “Operations, Technology & Field Experience”, focused on the practical realities of operating and maintaining Express Lanes facilities, covering roadway infrastructure, video tolling, enforcement, reversible lane operations, technology, analytics, and pricing optimization. Participants also took part in a virtual tour of Northern Virginia Express Lanes facilities, followed by discussions on engineering, facility design, lessons learned, and opportunities for continued industry collaboration.

 

 

 

Emovis was represented throughout the workshop by Marc Deflin, Chief Sales Officer, North America, and Konstantinos Sakkos, Technical Solutions Manager. Both actively engaged in the different discussions, sharing perspectives and practical insights from Emovis’ experience in toll-based mobility. Marc Deflin also contributed to the Emovis lunch session, bringing the company’s Express Lanes experience into the wider industry discussion.

 

For Emovis, the workshop provided an opportunity to contribute a cross-functional tolling perspective to conversations spanning strategy, technology and operations. Direct engagement with operators, agencies and technical experts enabled Emovis to exchange practical views on how pricing, traffic management, enforcement, analytics, technology and customer experience interact within the broader operational model.

 

 

 

The discussions reinforced the importance of looking beyond individual tolling components. The performance of an Express Lanes program depends on how its technologies, processes, and people work together, while allowing the overall operation to evolve as priorities and mobility needs change.

 

The workshop reinforced a shared industry perspective: the future of Express Lanes is not a better tolling component—it is a better-connected operational system that evolves with changing needs. Emovis remains actively engaged in Toll Insight’s events and industry forums, supporting opportunities for open knowledge exchange, practical collaboration, and continued dialogue across the tolling and mobility community.
